AI-Based I-PASS Handoff Detection

In progress · with Starmer, InterSystems

Whisper + GPT pipeline that detects each of the five I-PASS elements in verbal pediatric handoffs. 94.8% accuracy across 77 simulated cases (385 element calls), with 80% of errors as false negatives — the safer failure mode for educational feedback.

Direct-observation audit of family-centered rounds three years after Patient and Family Centered I-PASS implementation. Identified specific gaps in current practice to target re-intervention.

Pediatric Handoff PHI Remover

Open source · 99.15% PHI recall

CPU-only tool that de-identifies handoff recordings against the 18 HIPAA Safe Harbor identifiers with pediatric-specific recognizers for guardian names, spelled-out names, room numbers, and dates.
